MISSION/SERVICE PROJECTS

THIRD SUNDAY MISSION

Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received.”  1 Peter 4:10
The Third Sunday Mission is an opportunity for people seeking a place to serve.  We chose Sunday morning because it is a time of gathering for worship and an opportunity for “the church to leave the building” in service to others.
Following worship, a small group of volunteers go to the Women and Family Development Center at Star of Hope’s Cornerstone Community where the help set up and serve the lunch-time meal for the families in residence.

If you would like more information or would like to volunteer, call the church office (713-667-6531); or sign up on Sunday mornings during fellowship time.

FOOD FOR CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY SERVICE CENTER FOOD PANTRY

St. Luke’s members and friends contribute non-perishable food items to be given to the Christian Community Service Center (CCSC) Food Pantry.  Food items may be given at the church on Sunday mornings or dropped off during the week.  Volunteers then transfer the items to CCSC’s Food Pantry at 3434 Branard St. for distribution.
Helping to feed those in need is a rewarding way to give of your time and resources.

For information about days and hours for food drop-off at the church, please call the office (713-667-6531).

WEDNESDAY NIGHT MONTROSE STREET REACH

Each Wednesday night, the Presbytery of New Covenant feeds the homeless at their Montrose Street Reach mission dinner.  This outdoor dinner is donated and served each week by one of the Presbytery’s member churches.
St. Luke’s volunteers participate once each month, both by providing parts of the meal and serving the homeless who come to partake.  The weekly event has come to be a greatly anticipated meal for the Montrose homeless population.
Call the church office for more details or to sign up to volunteer (713-667-6531).

GRACE BAGS FOR THE HOMELESS

An ongoing mission project at St. Luke’s is the collection of food items to assemble grace bags which members hand out to the homeless.  The contents of each bag contain food with enough calories to feed a person for an entire day.  The bags are assembled and decorated by the children and youth of St. Luke’s.  Once assembled, the bags are taken by members to keep in their cars and pass them on to homeless individuals they encounter as they drive around the city.
Items needed for the bags are:
  • Canned Vienna Sausage
  • Peanut Butter Crackers (individual packages)
  • Granola Bars
  • Fruit Cups
  • Juice Boxes/Pouches
  • Bottles of Water (8 oz.)
